Thought for the Week
Palm Sunday – 24th March 2024
Passion Sunday begins the most solemn week in the Church’s year. As the final hours of Jesus’ earthly life ebb slowly away, we set out in his company to share this fateful journey to Calvary. We go from the triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, to the joy of Holy Thursday, through the darkness of Gethsemane, into the mock trial of Pilates’ courtyard and to Golgotha, where all seems lost. The drama of this first Palm Sunday unfolds as the crowd, wild with excitement, spread cloaks and palm branches in Christ’s pathway as he enters the gates of Jerusalem on a humble donkey. The unfolding events change triumph into tragedy as the peoples’ cheers turn into jeers and he exchanges a donkey for a wooden cross.
We could say that what is revealed in St Mark’s Gospel today is the essence of Christian discipleship. As Christian disciples we are called to share in the sufferings of Christ and humbly submit ourselves to God’s will. The passion of Christ helps us realise that there are no outsiders where suffering is concerned. It makes us realise that we cannot side-step the pain and sufferings that come our way. To all who willingly take up their cross and follow him, the road leads from darkness to light, from despair to hope and from death to everlasting light.

Heavenly Father,
We come before you with hearts full of faith and hope as we pray for the successful joining of our two parishes in this pastoral area.
Lord, we seek your guidance and blessings for this journey as we strengthen our faith community and fulfil your mission to evangelise and bring people closer to Jesus Christ
May your wisdom enlighten our journey as we join together in faith, love, and unity.
In the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, and through the power of the Holy Spirit, we offer this prayer. Amen.

TIME, TALENT and TREASURES
One of our basic Parish Objectives is to continue to build and support the future of our Parish community.
The aim of our Time, Talents and Treasures Project is to ask all our parishioners to consider how they might be able to contribute their skills and talents to supporting the ministries and groups that already exist in our Parish, or even start new groups with appropriate objectives.
We already have many active groups, from St Vincent DePaul which provides all types of support to many parishioners, (particularly the elderly and less mobile), to the Mothers and Babies Group.
You can find out more about the life of the Parish with its many ministries from our Parish Handbook (see above), but to assist with your deliberations, representatives of each of our main groups have made short videos to explain their objectives. Links to these videos are listed below, and will be extended as more videos become available.
