Bereavement and Funeral Organisation

Introduction to Catholic Windsor Bereavement Support Group

We in Catholic Windsor Parish want to do everything we can to help you through this difficult and sometimes painful time.

The information on this page is a guide to making arrangements for a funeral in our parish.

We also have a Parish Bereavement Group, who will not only pray for you but are ready to help in any way on the day of the funeral and afterwards.

I hope, that in making your funeral arrangements, the following information might be of help.

Canon David Hopgood

The Service – The normal practice for a Catholic funeral is to have a Requiem Mass followed by a burial or cremation.

A Vigil Service followed by a Requiem Mass – The coffin is taken to the church the evening before the funeral. A short service of acceptance and prayers are carried out with family and friends. This gives the family the opportunity to spend some time in a quiet, prayerful place of worship before the funeral with the requiem Mass the following day.

The Requiem Mass is structured as in the following draft Order of Service.
(Click here for Funeral Order of Service)

Preparing the Order of Service – Canon Hopgood or one of his representatives from the parish will visit to arrange the readings, hymns and the order of service of the funeral with you. Below you will find a link to a list of readings and psalms.

Eulogy – If required, a family member or friend, or alternatively, Canon Hopgood, can carry this out. It will be read at the beginning of the service before Mass.

Photographs – You may consider using a photo of your loved one on the cover of the order of service. With your approval the parish would like to place this photo in the church in the days leading up to the funeral so that the parishioners can remember the deceased.

The Bereavement Group – Members of the group will attend the funeral to support you with the smooth running of the service. They will welcome people, hand out the orders of service and answer any questions your visitors may have.

In the weeks after the funeral, the group will pray for you and your loved one and contact you to offer support in the days ahead.

The Bereavement Group can be contacted at bereavement@catholicwindsor.org

Please note that there is limited parking in the church car park, however, pay and display options are available on the adjoining roads. There is also a multi storey car park on Clarence Road.
